Will the ocean ever run out of fish? - Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Jennifer Jacquet

View full lesson: When most people think of fishing, we imagine relaxing in a boat and patiently reeling in the dayโ€™s catch. But modern industrial fishing -- the kind that stocks our grocery shelves -- looks more like warfare. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Jennifer Jacquet explain overfishing and its effects on ecosystems, food security, jobs, economies, and coastal cultures. Lesson by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Jennifer Jacquet, animation by Anton Bogaty.

China: Nah! We dont hear anything.
Vegan life is humane
The question should be will the fish ever run out the ocean?no cause they don't have legs
If we keep destroying ourplanet it will sure be run out of fish one day
WWF and Greenpeace have published guides for consumers to know which fish is still "okay to eat". I would really recommend them (there are apps too) because we as customers determine the demand on certain fish species. And the demand determines the supply!
God I cringe at all these vegans in the comments thinking they are changing anything except being skinny
I love this chanel!I wish I were this smart... Edit:OMG thanks for all the likes! You are the best guys!!!!
No the real question is... *Will the internet run out of memes?*
This is *Vegan propaganda* 1 Like = Join *Team Meat*
It doesn't mean every form of fishing is bad. In my country (Netherlands) fishing is very regulated and they invested tons money for innovative electric pulse fishing where fish is led into the nets with electric pulses instead of tickler chains so there's almost no damage to the sea floor and almost no unwanted bycatch. Green Peace still try to block them though, by throwing large boulders into the sea which damage the fishing nets. Those damaged fishing nets stay on the sea floor and catch all sorts of fish who die without any purpose. That's why I'm a little sarcastic when watching these video's. I know in other parts of the world overfishing is a real deal but still.
The gulf is already a dead zone. The Pacific is radiated by fukushima not man. This is the Lucifer New World Order lie that you are pushing. "TEKEL"
The solution is as simple as it can be: Go vegan ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒฟ Compassion, nonviolence, for the people, for the planet, for the animals.
Also worth mentioning, roughly half of all food caught, raised and farmed for the American market ends up in landfills. The US has a fraction of the worlds population, yet "consumes" and throws away enough food to feed much of the rest of the world. Recreational fishing regulations in America also causes as much harm as it does good.Rather thanaccepting whatever size is caught, regulations result in many fish having to be thrown back to die and more caught to fit regulations and limits.
What did a worm say to another? I smell something Fishy!
No, because there's plenty of fish in the sea, matey
The ocean called, they're running out of fish!
Go Asian. #RiceLife
So uhh...eat more land animals?
Not answered the title question so just one of zhe typical extremistic videos, that have no other meaning then changing our emotions, which is a crime of freedom
Good video, didn't answer the question in the slightest
ANIMALS ARE NOT FOOD
Dab
I ate fish when I was 3-7 but now I am 11 I hate to eat fish I am helping to protect nature. I went to park yesterday there was a lake in it a man was fishing over there I said to him-- ๐Ÿ˜ uncle will you please stop fishing? ๐ŸŽฃ ๐ŸŽฃ by listening this he dropped all of the fishes in the water and left. Like and comment if you think that I did right!๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜˜ Edit- well I am a non-vegetarian
And I'm officially depressed
The government need to control how many fish you can catch in a month
We have to invest in fish farming on land instead of in the sea, and also implement a 5 years of no industrial fishing so fish population can bounce back to acceptable numbers. Anyways,it sickens me that some company are still practicing these methods and imagine a world without fish, the horror!
And Knowing Is Half The Battle!
While I can appreciate the information in this video, and I agree with a lot of it, the way this information is presented is borderline propaganda. I get enough of that from the man in the White House, I'd really rather not see it everywhere else.
On the scale 1 to 10 how much would you rate your any favorite food like: pork. red meat. chicken.
THATS IT IM BUYING ALL DA FISH FROM PETCO AND SENDING THEM BACK TO THE WILD E.E
Let's be vegan?

Let's just not eat fish. Or any animal.
Shoutout to all those vegetarians who say "but I eat fish"
Still you haven't answered your own question"will the ocean ever run out of fish?" And when?
Will the fish run out of ocean?
When the ends of times come there won't be not one single fish left swimming not one fin ๐Ÿค“
The problem isn't really people CONSUMING the fish, weather you're vegan or not.The problem is how fishermen are OVERfishing and how other fish are being killed leaving hem to waste when they're unwanted. They just need to be limited when it comes to fishing.
Well i don't eat fish
I dont eat fish, I helped save the planet!
If fish had legs would they eat us, ALL? yep.
I have a fish
Ah...so it still doesn't answer the question it raised at the beginning.
Save the fish ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‹they might not have eney in the future
PEOPLE NEED TO STOP EATING THE POOR FISHIES!!!!!
Damm, you selfish human *i will eat you*-im a youkai and i will eat you-
More nonsense. The majority of fish avoid those huge nets. A minority of fish get caught. The problem is that fish are learning to avoid fishing, and there may be over-fishing of those susceptible fish.
The AD of TEDed is always good
Imagine if the world stopped fishing and the laws for that fishing is so strict that it can lead people to prison for months, and the recovery of the oceans and sea life will be improve and accomplished...
How many times did she say 'fish'?
Stop eating fish, be a vegan
The video didn't answer the title question.....
Start hunting people to save earth.
Instead of 'regulating' fishing, we may as well just stop eating fish as a whole, at least in high income countries where this is an option. Honestly, we don't need to consume animals nor their produce at all to thrive as a species. Considering that any nutritional value that a fish provides can besubstituted by plants, eating one fish for pure leisure is completely unfair and unethical in comparison to the consequences that your choice has. Clearly you care enough about the oceans to watch this video, so why not allow your values reflect in your actions and eliminate these animals from your diet?
You Should Make A Video About Overpopulation!!!
Guy 1: "Regulations hurt the economy!1!!" Guy 2: "Biosphere collapse hurts more."
To the English: no its not chinas fault Im chinese and I dont eat shark fins to the other chinese: stop eating sharks you know how harmful it is
What we should do is follow the rules of supply and demand. We should reduce the demand for fish so that they will stop fishing them. You can help by not eating the fish. Though find alternative foods. Like chicken or beef. I know itโ€™s not the best way considering on how horrible their treating them. You should probley go vegan all together
Evolution
I love sharks fins soup. more!!! YOLO
At times like this I'm glad I'm a vegetarian
Yes.The.BIBLE. Say.That.GOD.Will. Ruin. Those. Ruining.The.Earth.Revelation11: 18. ))
Eat more Cats?
Karma will happen people! if we keep polluting earth it will become inhospitable and we will all die.The end.
You could say us humans are selFISHwhere is the door
Two best knowledge chanel mind your decision and Ted ed
We need to improve farm fishing technology.
How about blowing up illegal fish boats?
Europe was restricting the amount of fishing you could do. But then UK decided it didnt like that so BREXIT
2:03 soup and chopsticks?
This video seems pretty *fishy.*
Short answer, no
We hear that all the time yet no one knows a person that eats fish regulary
What cause TB or what is it?
Cant we farm fish?
Why is it that Asians are in everything bad when it comes to animals....
I have lived in South Florida my entire life and never once have I eaten anything that comes from the sea since 25% of fish and other animals that live in the ocean are polluted from ingesting harmful waste.
Poor fish.
Let's just eat more insects I'm fairly certain they don't taste bad at all
How could we run out of fish lol just plant some more ๐Ÿ˜‚
One needs to kill another to survive and evolve. In our case humanity needs to kill planet earth to achieve its full potential. Sorry liberal pussies but when compared to the full potential of the universe earth and its creatures mean nothingfor the humanity.
So glad I no longer contribute to the biggest part of destruction of our oceans and forests. Fish doesn't taste as good as vegan feels. :) (I know, I know, bacon good, vegan bad. Lol.)
We indian hindus ....r best in the world....we never eat fish.....so fish love to live in india..... ..fish are safe in india....
I rather kill myself then go vegan
Fish will never die out until we turn ocean into acid
Expecting government to do something about it is complete bollocks, just stop buying fish people! No demand will stop the supply. P.S. Go Vegan! <3
If we leave it alone for a while, the nature will restore itself slowly but surely. We must realize our environmental impact on the world we are going to leave to our children. That's why everyone must eat rocks!
Or.... we can make the extinct?what? yes I am
Do vegans eat seafoods?
Humans should all die
Fish are not in trouble we just sped up evolution and fish evolved to be good at avoiding getting caught in nets...
Will the fish ever ocean out of run?
This is propaganda. Makes fishing sound way worse then it is.
It's the seismic and the oil rigs in the ocean that destroy the fishes spawn places.. dont put all the blame on the fishermen because a huge amount of the worlds oceans have quotas and restrictions of when and where you can fish.. it's very important for the human race to eat fish, and we have done it for as long as we have existed.
Apart from making this great educational animations, you must also tell people what to do, in order to change something!
Fish are too tasty
Please consider going vegan if you care about the environment. You can't help our planet more than by making right food choices.
We fish because there is a demand for food, but then get chastised for successfully feeding people. My favorite liberals are those who are doing all the barking while choking on a fish bone. Let's talk to Al Gore about his home electricity consumption and frequent jumbo jet excursions before we start telling everyone that they have to use smaller fishing nets, shall we? Thank you, inconvenient truthers.
Running out of fish? Wow...That's one sticky fishutation right there.
