How to write a perfect IELTS essay conclusion

The conclusion of an essay is where you must make your final argument clear. Many students struggle to write their conclusion because they don't know what to say other than just repeating their previous arguments. If you are taking the IELTS, TOEFL, or CAE English language tests, you need to learn how to write a good conclusion to get a high score. The process of writing a conclusion for an essay is a lot simpler if you follow a structure in your writing. Following a structure of what to write means that you can write your essay answers as quickly as possible, without running out of time to answer the question. Remember, the IELTS and CAE exams are to test your knowledge of English -- not the quality or originality of your ideas. For this reason, it's best just to follow an easy structure that you can use any time, which you can replicate without making grammatical mistakes. In this lesson, I explain different conclusion structures you can use in your IELTS writing exam. Practise the structure you like best, and memorise a few phrases. After watching, you will be ready to write a good essay conclusion in your exam. Good luck! Test your understanding with the quiz: More IELTS videos:More IELTS tips and practice:TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. I'm Jade. What we're talking about today is writing a conclusion for an IELTS exam or a CAE exam, so I'm going to give you two ways to write conclusions so that when you get to the end, you don't just sort of put a full stop that doesn't really say anything extra, that doesn't feel like a conclusion. Because when you write a conclusion, a good conclusion has a different tone, there's something that feels finished about it. And more generally, your conclusion should be your last chance to impress, to show that examiner all that English that you know and how fluent you are when you're writing in English, and you should leave the reader with an additional thought in the end, ideally, when you're writing a conclusion. So let's look at a typical IELTS kind of question. "Some people think that parents should teach their children to be good members of society. However, others believe school is the best place to learn this." And then the IELTS question would say: "Share your experience, and give reasons for your answers." So let's imagine that you've already written your essay. So, how do you begin your conclusion? The... The first way I'm going to tell you, I'm going to call it the "As I have discussed" conclusion, and there are three parts to writing this conclusion. And I'm giving you the structure so that you can see how you can put a conclusion together just by putting different pieces in there. And now, this is... This is great for an IELTS essay. It's not a super imaginative kind of conclusion that would be great at university, but for IELTS, it's... It's good for IELTS. So, here are the three parts for this conclusion: "As I have discussed"; then: "However" sentence with "I" or, you know, using your subjectivity, basically; and then making a moral or social observation in the first conditional. So let's have a look. So, "As I have discussed", what we're doing is we're just taking that phrase, basically, and this shows the tone... This establishes the tone of conclusion: "As I have discussed". You're basically saying: "Well, I already told you all of this, but now I'm summarizing." "As I have discussed, there are advantages and disadvantages to the question." I've shown both sides of the argument. You could just learn that, you could learn that whole phrase to begin a conclusion. What do you follow it with? You follow it with a "However" sentence. So, there may be advantages and disadvantages, but there's a catch. "However, I think parents should be responsible for teaching children to be good members of society." So this is you saying: "Yeah, I see both sides. This is good about it, that's good about the other side. But, you know, for me and in my opinion", because now we're using your subjectivity by saying: "I think", you can... You can finally make your position clear, make your position known. Maybe in the rest of the essay, this is discursive... This is a discursive essay. You've been showing both sides of the argument. But if you write your essay in a way where you don't use: "I think", "I believe" in the rest of the essay before, it can be quite powerful just to use "I think" once at the end in your conclusion. So, again: "However, I think parents should be responsible for teaching children to be good members of society." That bit's done. What do we do next? Well, sometimes people like to end essays by giving a grand statement about morals and the world, so you can also do this in your IELTS exam. And this is what I'm talking about when I say: "Make a moral or social observation".

Gracias. un beso preciosa.
Aren't you allowed to use "I" in your essay?
Thank youπŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“
What about a conclusion for a question that asks for advantages and disadvantages but do not ask for and opinion? Thank you!
Arya Stark:) I can't help but notice how much you look like her. Great video btw!

You're hot af, my donger has inclined towards your magnificent attraction
IELTS? No idea what that is but I learned how to end my essay.
Really helpfull!Thank you!!
I know it was slip of the tongue, but "are taught" isn't the Past Simle form by no means. It's a passive contruction of the Present Simple tense. That's way it's a part of a 1st Conditional structure.
You are so lovely! Teacher, love ya.
Honestly I am just watching this because I want to make one since that is what we will do today, most likely, and I am sick
You such
Thanks for what you are doing
Hi i started watching ur videos i watched the Introduction video for the essay Ielts and i'm watching the conclusion one but why can't i find the video explaining the essay body ? i mean the essay is three parts so i only know the first one and the last one or i'm wrong ? thank u

I like your finishing style of ending vedio....its just awesomefunnyy :) love u lots..
Nobody is perfect. Nothing is perfect. Except God. You should not say "how to write a PERFECT conclusion", under the name of Jesus Christ.
I adore your accent it is neat, delightful, beautiful as a Jade gem and its synonyms, precious like you, and your face. I love it. really "love a first sight glance and listen"Honestly! Thank you so much for your classes there are very interesting. Keep on like this! Thank dear friend. I'm very impressive and content to have a person and teacher like you.
4:38, "be + V3" is the structure of the passive voices. You've failed sweety Jade :)
Really good work....but Jade i am in love with you.
Isnt 'i think' a weak thsis. shouldnt it b a firm statement like i strongly feel..
Can I continue with you? Please.
Good lesson , Jade
I cannot unserstand some words :3 Sometimes she talks very fast :p
In the last sentence "....the role of the family would be destroyed." seems like a very unnecessarily strong word and (i think) doesn't fit in...compared to the rest of the conclusion. In my opinion, the better sentence might be " If schools were to teach this, the role of the family would become obsolete."....this sentence seems to be a little bit more subtle and seems to fit in quite nice.... and also shows off your vocabulary. Just saying...
Great lesson thank you.
Hey jade could you please make a video on "have had" sentences
I'm taking my CAE exam next July, so this was pretty useful. Thanks!
Wow, this video is so helpful, now I got more ideas to write m conclusion thanks a lot Good video.
Thanks a lot ma'am!!
You are left-handed...
Hey Jade i need your help,i have done IELTS recently ,but did not get require band. I had problem in writing ,and that is still until . Please guide me.
As I know, structure of 1st conditional is: if [present simple], [will]. Why did you use "taught" (Past simple)?
Last time I wrote an essay I started writing about the differences between bred dogs and pet shop dogs, and somehow I ended up writing about wear and tear on turtles...
I want to be with you always to develop my English language.
Hi Jade, I would dedicate this week to watch all of your videos, in the hope to erase all my bad memories of learning English in my teenage years. At that time, people of the same age of mine learnt for exam's sake. Nearly no one was learning out of interest. It's just a compulsory subject. I felt sick of it. The teachers looked dull in their facial expression. The lessons were always repeating. I just needed to practice spelling, and did endless mock exam paper of the same kind. It's killing my interest of the language. I would say I can't master the language well because of the bad memories from my earlier life.
Its really so kind of you that you are giving your time and teaching us.
Please ! stop being so attractive all the time.
Jade i like if you give me your email to discuss
Thank you, Jade! Β It's really helpful.

The future co, there is no short cut in learning grammer 😊 i have been learning grammar for 3 months...there are 7 types of verbs like gassing. feeling. seems. remain, possion, getting, state and plus have a good command in tenses which mostly people dont have they always talking in two tenses present simple and past simple other tenses they dont know how to use them... anyway find a good teacher.
Love Jade!!!!!
Thank You so much for this lesson Jade!!!!!!.. I'm really interested about learning english.,so your video is quite helpfull.I've just been watching others channels ,however yoursarebetter.
I think there was a minor mistake when the author said that "taught" is "past simple" instead of "past participle". She made the audience confused about the structure of first conditional, which simply is present simple tense in the if clause and future simple tense in the main clause .
Thank you so much
If schools were to teach, the role of the family would be destroyed. I am sorry, but does this idea make sense?
Helpful video thanks. please make a writing tips for gcse exam .
Ilive in somalia so I need teachercont whtsup 002520634015639
Thank you for the lesson! It's very useful.
Hey Teacher: (4:42) Did you mean simple present? Because for all I know the first conditional doesn't work with past simple. So if Children ARE taughtto be good members ofsociety, the world WILL be a better place. The key word is ARE instead of TAUGHT. TAUGHT is in the past just because of the passive voice. Am I wrong?
I like it thank you so much
Thanks...good points
Jade! thank you so much! the lessonis really helpful, as my students are takingNational Examination in June.
Thanks for the lesson, Jade!) Waiting for the next one)
